Design school culture is immersion training. No one going in knows what's going to happen and the results are quite relieving and stunning if you join the club.

Once the inch of ice on the inside of my Bellingham bedroom had subsided, spring brought the prospect of taking the classroom outside. Glenn Newcomer and I created a whole league - bracket, rules, and uniform requirements - for the two of us to put our design skills to the test.

The constraints were self-imposed and entirely serious: no competing without proper short shorts, a full official bracket despite there being exactly two entrants, and league identity treated with the same rigor as a client project. We gained the appropriate media coverage on LATFH.
