Yakitate!

Identity system for an exhibition of emerging Japanese product designers - created for Designboom's debut presence at Dwell Magazine's annual design conference.

  • Role: Identity Designer
  • Company: Designboom
  • Timeline: 2011
  • Platform: Print, exhibition signage
  • Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Status: Exhibited at Dwell on Design 2011, LA Convention Center

Designboom commissioned the identity for Yakitate! - an exhibition they curated of emerging Japanese product designers, shown at Dwell Magazine's 2011 Dwell on Design Conference in Los Angeles.

Yakitate translates roughly as "fresh-baked" or "just made" - a word that carries a sense of immediacy and craft. The identity needed to carry that lightness into an exhibition context: clean enough to let the products read, distinctive enough to hold its own in a large convention hall.
