The AIGA Seattle chapter runs entirely on volunteer labor from the board down to the people greeting attendees at the door. When I joined as Programming Co-Director, event production was largely improvised. I set out to change that.
On the design side, I co-developed a custom WordPress theme on top of AIGA National's iKit platform, incorporating the geometric identity system from Kiss Me I'm Polish's concurrent membership rebrand. The site featured an event calendar, editorial Broadsheet section, a community Index/Map of Seattle design businesses, responsive mobile layouts, volunteer recruitment flows, and a calendar submission form with event-type categorization.
On the operations side, I built a standardized event production toolkit: a Google Sheets proposal template requiring strategic overview, financial projections, and post-event actuals; a budget template covering ticket tiers, partnership funding, and expense categories; a Google Drive folder hierarchy for all production assets; and a Google Forms request system that routed inquiries automatically to the correct board member. Square card readers were distributed across volunteer phones under shared chapter accounts for flexible at-door ticketing and merch sales.
The custom theme was built with help from the National office and Graphiti. The operational infrastructure was adopted chapter-wide during the 2014–2015 season.
